Toy Soldier Workshop - Mini Drop Pouch

Details
Category: Pouches
Created: Monday, 15 February 2010 01:51

Toy Soldier Workshop brings us another unique pouch. The size and the mounting options turn this pouch into a specialty GP pouch. A good assortment of random small and medium things will fit inside, but one example could be to use it as a small medical pouch. The size is approx 8"L x 4.5"H x 2.5"D of course varying on how much you stuff in there. Construction on this one was overall solid with the main material being 1000D cordura.

The main opening uses double zippers and is covered by a rain flap. If empty, the zippers can be more difficult to operate due to the flexibility of the material. Fortunately the webbing tabs on the sides greatly assist in zipper control while also being lash points. Inside is plain jane with no extras, however there are 2 grommets on the bottom as a welcomed detail. On the back is a good dose of webbing for mounting options. The most noticable are loops with velcro connections. It appears the design intent is to mostly use these to cause the pouch to drop a little to offset from a vest or belt. Sadly this method is very unsecure as I can literally rip off the pouch myself with 1 hand when only connected by these straps. To make it tolerable I would recommend making the straps longer and putting the loop velcro on the interior of the webbing (facing the pouch). This way the connection would be much better. Do keep in mind that in any sort of hanging drop-down mode the pouch can be a bit floppy during heavy movement. Luckily the existing design still has other options. The webbing allows for horizontal belt mounting up to about 1-3/4" duty belts. The webbing construction also creates 3 columns which gives a good opportunity to use Malice clips. Just cut off those jank velcro straps and use short Malice clips; then you can still get the drop down effect with more security. It isn't perfect, but if this pouch size fits your needs, luckily fixing it on your own with other mounting solutions is not difficult.
